Suzanne Grantham is a master metalsmith who creates innovative artwork out of metals from her Orlando, Florida studio. Suzanne found a love for metal and three-dimensional art in high school jewelry class. As a native and love for Florida she attended Rollins College where she received her Bachelor of Art degree in studying photography, jewelry making, and sculpture. Her desire to learn more about manipulating metals and reaching her highest potential as a sculptor and metalsmith brought Suzanne to The School of American Crafts at R.I.T. in Rochester, New York where she received her Master degree in metals and photography.
“My work is based on the theme of capturing an emotion, moment or concept in a given space. This space is usually defined space, that which is real but intangible. To me, the vessel is a symbol for the human form. References, images, and construct of the vessel are like ornamentation on the body. The inside of the vessel remains empty, leaving space for the feeling I am attempting to convey. The vessel forms themselves have been highly influenced by African containers such as gourds, drums, and jugs. These African vessels often serve dual purposes as containers as well as instruments. I embrace this aesthetic of combing functionality with the rhythms of life.”
Currently, Ms. Grantham is pursuing her dream creating functional artwork out of metals from her studio in Orlando, Florida. Suzanne’s artwork ranging from door pulls to large chandeliers and sculpture is exhibited in commercial and residential locations nationwide. Some clients include, Darden Restaurants, Pebbles, Seito Sushi, Cardio Club Fitness, Rutenburg Homes, and Park Maitland School. Her organic designs in all metals exhibit a contemporary bold look.
